What is Reiki Healing?

Written by: Selysa Love

The human body has an incredible ability to heal. We have a beautiful gift to help each other heal. I get a scrape on my knee, and within a week it is completely gone. It feels like magic; it is miraculous.

My entire childhood and adolescence, my mother often asked me to place my hands on her many injuries. Sometimes she requested prayer, sometimes just my loving and healing energy. We shared precious peaceful moments like this our entire relationship. Today, I am so grateful that she fostered this subtle gift inside of me. Being raised by a mother with many disabilities developed in me loving kindness, compassion, and the ability to help others heal.

Reiki is a word that one Japanese man coined to define this art. Every culture and religion I have been exposed to has a version of this subtle and profound healing technique. When I formally studied reiki in India, it felt like something I had been practicing my whole life.

Reiki is universal life force. Reiki is unconditional love from above.

Since opening a reiki healing clinic in Sacramento, I have witnessed first hand that reiki healing treatments are particularly powerful for people struggling with mental health, chronic illness, depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma. The results have been so powerful that my clientele is nearly full.

In a reiki session, I explain to the recipient that they are healing themselves. I am a channel of flowing pure love. They receive this love and relax deeply. This allows the parasympathetic nervous system to activate, and it calms the fight-or-flight stress response. When the body enters into deep relaxation, it is allowed to rest, restore, and rejuvenate. When the body believes that it is healing, it is healing. This is the power of the mind-body connection. This is the power that your thoughts and ideas have over your physical health. Your mind can be your worst enemy or your greatest ally.

Try it out right now. Take a deep breath in, and out. For the next three minutes take the affirmation: [inhalation] I am healing; [exhalation] I am whole.
