A Brief History of Reiki
It was in March 1922 that Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, set out on a fasting meditation retreat on Mt. Kurama in Japan. It was there that he was struck with sudden enlightenment and rediscovered the ancient healing technique.
In April 1922, a month after his spiritual awakening, Mikao Usui founded his first Reiki institute in Tokyo where he began teaching seminars. He taught the Usui system of Reiki to countless students and several masters which eventually led to it being spread to the West in 1937.
Since then, Reiki has proliferated across the globe, developing into various styles. But the peace that it has provided humanity has remained constant to date.
